Elena Martínez Rubio/Elena Galzusta was born in Bilbao. She studied philosophy, sociology and literature at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Freie Universität Berlin and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She conducted her doctoral thesis on Hannah Arendt at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She holds a degree in Basque Philology and has been Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Basque Country and Professor of Basque at Goethe Universität (Frankfurt). She has also worked as a translator, has edited Günther Anders, Hannah Arendt and others, and has published articles in journals and the press on literature, history and philosophy. She collaborated in the UZEI’s Basque-language philosophy dictionary and is the author of the first German-Basque/Basque-German dictionary (Elkar. 2006/2010/online version 2013). In 2010 she was the recipient of the Villa de Pasajes Poetry Prize for her work titled Vivíamos a la vuelta de la esquina. She is the author, among other works, of Hannah Arendt: Un pensamiento a la intemperie (Besatari. 1999) and of Bidaia filosofikoak (Utriusque Vasconiae. 2015)
