Manu Uranga (Zumaia, 1980) holds a degree in Fine Arts (2005) and completed the Master’s Degree in Research and Creation in Art at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). His work approaches sculptural practice through narratives generated by the plasticity and surface qualities of materials, which enable or reconsider space and its limits. Thought slips between things, especially when the image disappears, establishing a physical transit between the object, its use, and the intervening body.
Among his exhibitions are Brazo y mano, Ethall (Barcelona, 2024); Nicho, Flex (Bilbao, 2024); Billabong, Carreras Múgica (Bilbao, 2017); Planos (second part), Torre de Ariz (Basauri, 2013); Planta (first part), COAVN – Official College of Basque-Navarre Architects (Bilbao, 2012); and Decúbito manual, Sala Rekalde (Bilbao, 2013).
In 2015 he developed the project Gio Bat, a set of personal and participatory art processes in which he invited other artists to collaborate. He has taken part in group exhibitions such as After ’68. Art and Artistic Practices in the Basque Country. 1968–2018 (Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, 2018); Fondo Animal, MPA (Madrid, 2017); Ideas Travel Faster Than Light, Niv Art Centre (India, 2016); and Izena Gero, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (2013).
He has also participated in the International Film Festival Rotterdam; Komende Fabrikaat, Artis Den Bosch (the Netherlands, 2008); El placer como control: del voyeurismo a la vigilancia, Hangar (Barcelona, 2009); and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (Germany, 2010).
