maria bocos
(Donostia, 1981). María Bocos trained as a designer at the Elisava design school in Barcelona and at the Eindhoven Design Academy in The Netherlands, and in 2011 received the Gipuzkoa Budding Artists award. She works in design and research and is a former member of the Decoding group as a researcher for Elisava, in collaboration with the El Bulli Foundation. Her work has been exhibited in centres such as the Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam.
Her work Landscape Does Not Exist shows the existence of the non-landscape. We think and conceptualise what we perceive, and the landscape is another mental construct which can be reconstructed. This project questions traditional forms of seeing and representing the Basque landscape and suggests new methods of reflection.
