nadia barkate
Bilbao, 1980. In her work, Nadia Barkate combines graphic languages and sculpture, with autobiographical remnants or her own images, which are more or less one in the same. A certain narrative intention is very much present in her process, which connects daily experience with manual work and spoken word. Sculpture responds to a need for order; it is a veiled narrative with a desire to appear accessible, dispelling what is obvious about the object through deliberate gestures and taking advantage of the value of its excess and what is residual.
Nadia Barkate has shown at Torre de Ariz (Basauri, 2016), Espacio Alexandra (Santander, 2016), CarrerasMugica (Bilbao, 2015), Koldo Mitxelena Cultural Centre (Donostia-San Sebastian, 2016), Batán (Villava, 2016), Altes Finanzamt (Berlin, 2014), Espai 01 (Olot, 2012), Sant Andreu Contemporani (Barcelona, 2012), La Casa Encendida (Madrid, 2010), and Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2010).
