xabier arakistain
Xabier Arakistain is a curator. He was director of the Montehermoso Culture Centre from December, 2006 to December, 2011. During this period, the Centre distinguished itself for its pioneering work in the development and application of policies of sexual equality in the art world, thought and contemporary culture. Previously, Arakistain had developed a number of different projects including the Trans Sexual Express exhibition (1999), which incorporated the sex quota as a curatorial criterion and which explored the cultural construction of sex, gender and sexuality categories within the contemporary artistic production of the Basque Country. From 2001 to 2003, he was responsible for the parity programming of the Exhibition Gallery of the Bilbao Art Foundation, and from 2003 to 2006, he directed debates on art and feminism in the contemporary art expert forum of the ARCO fair.
He has also given talks on his work and the relationships between art and feminism in several universities and art centres in a number of different countries.
