Zine de Barrio is an excuse to watch movies together again, a film club programmed by and for the residents of the Bilbao la Vieja, San Francisco, and Zabala neighborhoods that meets monthly at the Sarean cultural center. We began our journey in May 2024, prioritizing a working methodology that seeks to blur the lines between the programmer and the audience. Under a distinctly transfeminist epistemological framework, we select independent, often hard-to-access titles that open the door to conversations between people who are not necessarily film specialists.

With the intention of introducing our audience to the experimental, critical, and minority authors emerging in our context, we are presenting this new curatorial branch. Through it, we aim to explore, analyze, and disseminate the thriving Basque film scene, also paying attention to those productions that inhabit other spaces of dissemination, such as galleries, and audiovisual narratives emerging from contemporary art.
